Artist's
Statement
"I love music, jazz in particular. Listening to a good
jazz musician improvising can be a wonderful experience.
They seem to play effortlessly, building an endlessly inventive
and exciting solo, lifting you and carrying you along.
I want to do the same thing with my painting - to use my knowledge
of colour, shape and line, combined with intuition and imagination,
to make pictures which 'lift and carry' the viewer.
It is important to me that, at least in part, I 'make up' my painting
as I go along. I am not sure where the
inspiration comes from, but I really do hope that people enjoy looking
at them as much as I enjoy making them."
