About the Artist
Jas Maddock is an artist living and working from in Merseyside. She has a BA Hons Degree, and is trained in computer photo-manipulation software. She has had work exhibited in numerous exhibitions and galleries (see below). She uses various different media and styles, and is looking for book art - illustration, record sleeves (of which she has previous experience), and further commissions (particularly children's books &/or sci-fi).
She recently completed successfully the Big Arts Week, a national arts into schools campaign in June 2002
which got creative practitioners into schools. Jas and the kids created life size models of their teachers,
surreal collages and paintings, and she has been asked back to do some more work with them in September
this year. Jas also exhibited at the am and fc design fair at St Helens the Citadel Centre in July 2002 where
she sold cards, she has been the successful recipient of an ACID grant and Princes Trust funding this year,
has an agent in USA Charles Moffat of the Lilith Gallery , and she created some sleeve art for Sid Stovold's
Words compilation (due for release on Departure Records this June). She now also works at the
Maritime Museum in Liverpool as an Exhibition and Events assistant.

Artist's Statement
"A regular 'Mr Imagination' and also surreal/ethereal/black humour. I get depressed by the world reflected in my poetry and inspired by the fires in my head reflected in my heart. I hate some 'poncy art bunk descriptions' (I try not to do it! My descriptions are hopefully bunk-free!), and prefer to let my work stand as it is with just a basic description to let viewers' minds work. I'm very camp and florid though, and perceptive, with a 'schizophrenic' ethereal and surreal/black humoured facet to me - they do overlap, sometimes. I use detail, ink, acrylics, pencils, paper, boards, patience and glittery sequins/make-up to achieve effects. I paint best when crabby or exhilarated!"
