Artist's
Statement
"My primary influence and subject is colour, with the emphasis
on its spatial qualities. Sometimes I begin with reference to a
particular landscape, where colour becomes a vital ingredient. With
both these and the purely 'abstract' paintings, the colours describe
my inner world and expression of life. The images then grow organically,
gradually evolving through balance and. instinct. I am currently
working with acrylics because it allows me to build up layers, which
dry quickly allowing me the freedom to paint intuitively and without
inhibition. The tactile sensuality of paint is important to me along
with the organic properties of the image. My aim is to create a
new space and sensation that can only be created by and exist in
paint. I attempt to make non-visual ideas and sensation into the
visual."
