About the Artist
Ken Weatherley is an Essex bom artist who has recently settled in Norfolk. The artist studied Fine Art/Sculpture
in Brighton between 1987-1990, graduating with a B.A. (hons) degree. After the completion of his degree
course the artist travelled and studied in Europe for a year or so before moving to London, where he began to work as a prop-maker and model maker for various film, television and theatre companies. This work
developed a sense of discipline, craftsmanship and technical capability and also stimulated a solid working
ethic for his ongoing sculptural pursuits. The artist continued to exhibit and sell his work in the UK and in Europe during this time, although not on a full time basis. However, in 1997 the artist relocated to Norwich and
consequently was able to devote more time to the development of his artwork and to work more exclusively
within his chosen profession as a sculptor.

Artist's Statement
"I would say that my work is not conceptual in any academic sense because my ideas and concerns for a sculpture come more from the working and making process and it is this that gives me the direction from one piece to another. The inspiration comes from human nature and human affairs, and the figure is usually the
starting point for me. I have long held a passion for the structure and movement of the body. My sculpture of
figures comes almost from a reinvention of anatomy, which is a dramatic and exaggerated construction that creates a sensuous illusion of vigour and movement and which hopefully stimulates a tactile communication."
