Artist's Statement
"I have been an abstract painter for many years, showing my work in both the U.K. and the U.S.A.
My main interest in painting involves creating texture and bas relief as well as enjoying the often intriguing engagement with colour. Recently, I have added the dimension of woodcut grooves to the painting's surface
which increases the possiblities of relief. My paintings range in size from eleven inches to seven feet, but the
aims are always the same: to have rhythm and harmony in the compositions, and to be evocative rather than descriptive. The paintings are not abstracted from nature, but are rather a product of it in the form of imagination. Abstraction can be the closest to 'reality' as everything is made up of patterns of form, colour, and texture,
right down to the microscopic level."
