Artist's
Statement
The original source
of inspiration for 'The Four Keys to Atlantis' was the desire to
build a beautiful inner temple. I proceeded to use the myth of the
sunken city of Atlantis, a city full of riches and beauty beyond
belief and yet it
was destroyed by one night of rain. The inhabitants' greed brought
their downfall simply because they weren't satisfied with life.
Although it was destroyed, from destruction something can emerge
and grow. A new life
began flantis, an underwater natural world.
Atlantis
was full of temples walled with gold, man-made structures can be
destroyed, but the inner temple we
hold within is always with us. Each day we build with experience
from life, sometimes the temple is knocked
down, but we always have the option to rebuild and make it stronger.
The shapes
and forms used signify the lost souls of Atlantis on the search
for the stars, traveling towards the
sky in search of new life. The colours are for hope and discovery,
they relate to the wildlife that I have seen
whilst scuba diving - vibrant, ever changing colours.
